All of our teachers are passionate about children, music, and their musical development. They have been well-trained as Music Together® teachers as well as musicians and educators. They create a fun, and informal setting that spurs engagement and supports not only each child's musical development but equally important the easy participation of all the adults in class.
Alicia Anthony
Alicia has been teaching Music Together® for six years and is also an actor, a jazz/R&B vocalist, an award-winning playwright, and a songwriter. A native of Michigan, Alicia toured with a children’s repertory theatre in Detroit. She has sung with the Harlem School of the Arts Jazz Vocal Ensemble and for the past two years has been the vocal arranger for "New York Sings." She has performed with many bands, in several soap operas, and has delighted audiences of all ages in a variety of interactive theatrical events.
Leslie Kaplan
Leslie has been teaching Music Together since 1994. She studied at The Manhattan School of Music and has performed in musical theatre, children's theatre and has sung with jazz, folk, and rock bands. For eight years Leslie was the music specialist at Chelsea Day School where she also taught preschool.
Lynn Lobban
Lynn (Director, Music Together of Manhattan) first introduced Music Together to Manhattan in 1990 and is the "Mommy" voice on all nine Music Together collections An actor/singer/playwright, she has worked on Broadway, Off-Broadway and in regional theaters. She has won awards for her singing in New York cabarets, done countless TV commercials, and most recently performed in her play, QUARTER TO THREE. She continues to believe that Music Together remains the finest early childhood music program available.
Ann Jacobs
Anne Jacobs is a professional singer and actress, a multi-instrumentalist and an avid dancer. Singing everything from opera to honky tonk, she has performed throughout the Northeast. She holds a BA in music from Wesleyan University and an MA in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from Hunter College. When Anne joined the Music Together community she found it to be the perfect match for her talents and interests. She strongly believes that musical activity is an essential part of life for everybody, not just a select few, and is delighted to have found a job that actually requires silliness rather than discouraging it.
Liana Stampur
Liana, a singer-songwriter-teacher is the founding performer of the New York Civil Liberties Union's "Broadway Stands Up For Freedom!" benefit concert. She is the Co-Founder ofShifting Ground Productions, Inc.; a not-for-profit, non-partisan,volunteer-based organization dedicated to providing unique, live theatrical performances to children at pediatric facilities. In addition,Liana has written and composed (in both english and spanish) various works including Deportees. She is currently a vocalist for Clinton Curtis' band. She is a graduate from NYU'S Tisch School of the Arts with a BFA in Drama and Applied Theater. She is a proud Music Together Teacher!
Beth Fischer
Beth is a professional singer and actress whose credits include numerous plays, new opera, cabaret, and choral singing. She has been teaching Music Together since 1999. B.A. in Mathematics/Computer Science, The College of William and Mary; graduate studies in Developmental Psychology, Teachers College, Columbia University.
Dan Vonnegut
Dan Vonnegut began playing the drums and guitar when he was nine years old. He studied music at University of Miami and Indiana University (where he earned an BA in jazz music and culture.) For the past ten years, he has been a professional, freelance drummer and multi-instrumental music teacher in New York City. He lives in Brooklyn with his wife and two young children (who love music!)and is happy to be teaching Music Together!
Mia De Jesus
Mia began singing at the age of eight and soon realized she was destined to pursue music. After graduating from Berklee College of Music in Boston with a degree in Professional Music, Mia has sung and recorded with local bands through high school and college. Mia loves this new chapter of her life - teaching Music Together! She brings her warmth and passion for children, families, and music to her classes. And she's the proud Mommy to her lovely little girl, Sofia.
Wally Wilhoit
Wallace Wilhoit Jr (Wally) is a new convert to MusicTogether. He’s an actor/singer/writer of musicals (libretto, book & lyrics). He is currently working on the opera, Stillwaters, with composer Bettina Sheppard. Before theatre, Wally taught elementary school (grades 1-4) in Fairfax Co. Virginia and in Burbank, California. He also taught acting to 8 – 10 year olds at The Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. and at Santa Fe Performing Arts School & Co. in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Donovan Cain
Donovan has been involved in music since his mother played him The Beatles and Neil Diamond on the family record player as a young child. After graduating with a degree in Jazz Performance from The University Of The Arts in Philadelphia specializing in electric bass, Donovan pursued one of his true loves, playing music professionally. His NJ band, The Milwaukees, tours consistently throughout the year. Always having a good rapport with children, Donovan stumbled across Music Together while visiting family in San Francisco. As soon as he returned east, he enrolled in a Music Together Teacher Training Workshop and has assisted Directors in Hoboken, Jersey City and New York City since the Spring of 2008. Now, as a registered teacher, Donovan looks forward to bringing his warmth and love for music to the children of New York City.
